Local Social Media Club Launches Tonight

Thought I’d take a moment to tell you about a new group in Salt Lake City. It is the  Salt Lake Valley chapter of the worldwide Social Media Club organization based in San Francisco, Calif.

Their mission is to become the voice of social media technology — whether it be for business or personal use — in the Salt Lake area. Their goals are to expand media literacy, provide educational opportunities and promote ethical standards.

I believe this will be a great addition to the local scene and plan on attending. XMission is donating some schwag bags with goodies for the raffle.

Tonight is their first meeting: Thursday, January 15, 2009 @   5:00 pm

117 West 400 South (@The Summit Group map

This is an organizational meeting/mixer networking event with an open invite. The group encourages you to invite anyone you know in the SLC area to attend. As they like to say, “Everyone is welcome!”

You can learn more about this group on their website: http://www.smcslc.org.

They are also active on Facebook , Twitter, and on LinkedIn.

Check them out and say “Hello” when you see me there tonight.

See you soon!

Excellent post dude. Thanks for the heads up, i wish them all the best in Salt Lake City…they look like a pretty solid group.

The event was great. Honestly, I was a bit surprised at just how PACKED it was.

I had a good time working on a scenario project with folks from Acculus, Park City Mountain Resort, and Overstock.com.

I have high hopes for this group. After all, the room was loaded with talent from many of the Tech/Media/Design companies I’ve worked with around town over the last 13 years at XMission.

You should check out the meeting next month. Every 3rd Thursday. Details on their website.
